What are Fine Motor Skills?
All the little muscles in your hands and fingers need to be strengthened to allow us to be able to perform tasks such as writing and getting dressed! Something as simple as teaching your little one to do the buttons up on a shirt can be challenging if these muscles are not strong enough. Developing your fine motor skills will help improve and strengthen your child’s ability to be able to do many day to day things.
Fine Motor Skills Through Play
Play dough is often a fantastic and fun go-to activity used to improve fine motor skills. By creating new shapes, rolling out the play dough to make worms, and even pinching the play dough all help to strengthen the muscles in a child’s hand.
Pushing building blocks together, pulling them apart and finding the strength to build tall towers are all part of improving fine motor skills through play. This wonderful activity also promotes eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
Stickers, stickers and more stickers. Peeling them off the page, sticking them on, pulling them off again and moving them around. Those little fingertips need to be super strong to be able to do this little movement easily. By practising these with your toddler, you are improving not only their fine motor skills but having a great time too!
Engaging in fun activities like these, just to name a few, you are helping your child to improve their everyday skills in a fun way!
